User Guide

The Customfield Editor for Jira enables normal users to edit options of a customfield without beeing part of the jira-administrators group. As a normal Jira user you can edit options using the Field Editor. But before you can use the Field Editor ask your Jira administrator to grant you permissions on the desired customfield. Please note that only supported field types can be edited via the app.

Field Editor

To access the Field Editor click on Issues in the Jira top navigation bar. In the drop-down click on Field Editor.

List Fields

The List Fields page shows all customfields you have permissions for. You can click on the Edit Context Buttons in the edit-colum to edit options on the customfield for specific field contexts. If you do not see any customfields, ask your Jira administrator to grant you permissions for certain fields or contexts.

Edit Options

The Edit Options page lets you add new options, edit existing options, delete options, disable options and change the order by drag and drop. Since app version v1.2 you can sort options alphabetically and set the default value.

  • Edit an existing option by double-clicking it. You can also disable/enable the option by clicking the switcher.
  • Sort options alphabetically. See section ›Sorting options alphabetically‹ below for further details.
  • Set a default value. See section ›Setting the default value‹ below for further details.
  • Delete an option. A modal will open and ask for confirmation. If you delete an option, know that a Jira Issue may have that option selected. Therefore it is discouraged to delete options since you would change values on Issues. A better solution is to just disable an option.

Basic operations on options (CRUD)

The screencast GIF below shows you the basic operations like adding new options, edit existing options, delete options, disable options and change the order by drag and drop for the field type Select List (single choice). These operations are equal for all supported field types.

For the Select List (cascading) field type you can perform the same actions for all its child options. Simply click on the edit child options button to open a modal which lets you edit the child options.

Sorting options alphabetically

This screencast GIF below shows you how to sort options alphabetically for the field type Select List (single choice). It is basically the same for all supported field types.
